When Jim and Sasha Allen appeared on The Voice Live Shows, they were able to make history since Sasha was the first openly transgender contestant in the NBC show to get past The Battle Rounds in the entire 21 seasons. Newtown's pair, Jim and Sasha Allan, are now in the top 8 throughout the 21 years of the live shows on The Voice! Sasha declared that he was transgender at the time they presented their audition packages at the Blind Auditions. According to Parade.com the decision was not an easy choice. Sasha changed his gender in high school, and admitted that it was hard to openly reveal the vulnerable part of him in front of so many individuals. The support of the fans and the effect that it affected people regardless of the fact that it was hard to make, was what really convinced Sasha to make the change beneficial. We played the song before The Voice even existed. The moment we heard it, we were thrilled. It was a track we already knew; it was one we knew we had ideas to arrange. They were awestruck."
